Islam came to elevate the status of women and raise their status, which was lowly and vulgar before it; it protected them from vulgarity and honored them with the dignity of God for man, and removed from them a humiliation such as slavery that was inflicted on them while they were free.
The images of Islam’s honoring of women were manifested in the Holy Quran in the revelation of many Surahs and verses that deal with women in particular, as if it were one of the major affairs of society and the world, until it gave them a right that is still denied to this day in religions and civilizations.. That is her right to divorce and what is related to it from pregnancy, breastfeeding, waiting period, custody, maintenance.. and many chapters.
One of the long Surahs of the Quran and the hundreds is called “An-Nisa”, and there is no Surah called “Al-Rijal”, and what attracts attention is that Surah An-Nisa in particular included details of inheritance and obligations, as if it is an allusion to not obstructing them in their inheritance as the ignorant do to this day! Likewise, there was a long surah in the middle of the Mufassal called “Surat al-Ahzab” that dealt with matters such as the status and purity of the family of the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace and be pleased with them - and jihad in the way of God. I also meant, in addition to these great matters in religion and life, the veil of women. Allah the Almighty says: {O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.} [Al-Ahzab: 59], and another name of Allah the Almighty is “Surat An-Nur” in which Allah the Almighty says: {And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not display their adornment except what And let them draw their veils over their chests and not reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husbands’ fathers, or their sons, or their husbands’ sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or those their right hands possess, or male attendants who have no desire, or children who are not of the same age. They do not expose the private parts of women, nor do they stamp their feet so that what they hide of their adornment may be known. And repent to Allah, all of you, O believers, that you may succeed. [An-Nur: 31]
Thus, the issue of women’s hijab emerges amidst major issues; from the monotheism of Allah Almighty, to jihad in His cause, and by adhering to the purification of the Prophet’s household, and issues of inheritance, ablution and bathing; so how can one differentiate today between hijab as a legal obligation and prayer, zakat and fasting?!
Illiteracy surrounds the issue; such as imagining that hijab is of a lower degree than niqab, while the truth is that hijab is more general and comprehensive; the niqab is one of its forms.
Hijab - in the Arabic language - means prevention and covering. The word appears in the Qur’an in eight places that indicate this. It was named this way because it covers a woman and protects her from forbidden looks. The jurists have agreed that hijab is obligatory on every adult Muslim woman, meaning she has reached the age of accountability and is now subject to the legal rulings. Among these rulings is hijab, and the evidence for its obligation is the Almighty’s saying: “And not to display their adornment except that which appears thereof and to draw their veils over their bosoms.” The noble verse and many other texts in the revelation command believing women to adhere to hijab and cover their bodies from men who are not their mahrams. It is not permissible for her to remove her hijab and expose her private parts to others, except for urgent necessity. Such as treatment or testimony.
It is not permissible for a woman to take off her hijab unless she is one of those who have stopped menstruating, and not those whose menstruation has stopped as some of them claim or are mistaken; because it is the plural of qaid, which is the woman who has reached an age that makes her not desire, nor is desired. Abu Ubaidah said: "Those who have stopped having children", and that is not right because a woman stops having children and there is pleasure in her.
The hijab has become an issue in the West; where veiled women have been banned from entering universities and public facilities, and every wise and foolish person knows that this is a war against Islam and against it; so how can he turn a blind eye if this happens in Muslim countries?! Is it conceivable that Islam is fought and Muslims are provoked in it, and their women are attacked with calls that fight the hijab, and the media cheers the matter?!
Famous female figures take off their veils proudly, thinking that they have achieved a glorious victory. They are applauded warmly, but Muslims know that only the enemies’ creations do that.. The Veil Removers
