Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called on the international community on Friday to urgently stop arms exports to the Israeli occupation government, and condemned the attacks launched by the occupation against the UN peacekeeping forces "UNIFIL" in Lebanon.
"In light of everything that is happening in the Middle East, the international community must stop exporting weapons to the Israeli government," Sanchez said during a press conference at the Royal Spanish Academy in Rome, after a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican.
He added that he would make this call to the international community when he had the opportunity, saying: "Allow me at this stage to criticize and condemn the attacks launched by Israel on UNIFIL forces in Lebanon."
Sanchez pointed out that Spain stopped selling weapons to Israel in October 2023, and urged other countries to do the same to prevent further escalation in the region, adding: "I think it is urgent to look at what is happening in the Middle East."
